Tactic Girl's/ Small Woman's Huipil --- This huipil was hand woven on a back-strap
loom in three pieces and has green velvet trip around the neck and arm
holes.. The small diamond designs are brocaded into the fabric
creating interesting larger flowing design that of pinks and and reds. As woven the huipil is
approximately 16 inches long. The girl/woman who wore it has added pieces
of black commercial cloth at the bottom so that the huipil can be easily
tucked into the skirt. They can easily be removed if desired.
All panels have salvages.
The
huipil is in fairly good condition with some wear on the brocading and
some loose threads.

Woman's Huipil --- This huipil was hand woven on a back-strap
loom in three pieces and has especially beautiful hand embroidered flowers
around the neck.. The designs of small figures or dolls ("munacas")
are very traditional and brocaded into the fabric. Used, in nice condition with
light wear and some loose threads in the fabric. Salvages are intact
in front and back of huipil. The sides of the huipil have been
opened for display. I wish I could embroider like this
woman could.

Tactic
Woman's Huipil --- The green and purple brocaded designs in
this huipil include the tree of life and chickens (take a close
look). They were woven into the design as the three pieces of fabric
were hand woven on a back-strap loom. The neck opening is unusually
large and actually fits over my head. The neck opening is simple but is
neatly finished. As woven the huipil is
approximately 16 inches long. The woman who wore it has added pieces
of blue commercial cloth at the bottom so that the huipil can be easily
tucked into the skirt. You can see that the letter "A" is
written in pen on a small area of the blue cloth (see insert). The
added fabric can easily be removed if desired. The huipil has nicely
finished salvages on all ends of the three panels. The
huipil is in very good condition with a few loose threads. The material is
made of good quality threads.

Tactic
Woman's Huipil --- This is a fine hand-woven huipil in excellent
condition from Tactic. Incredibly intrique designs of ducks,
corn stalks, trees and other traditional motifs are brocaded into
the fabric when it was woven on a back-strap loom. T The
huipil is made of three panels with all ends having a finished
salvage. The neck is nicely finished in light blue with what
appears to be a tight crocheting. The sides of the huipil
have been opened for display. All the threads are of good quality
and huipil is in excellent condition with little wear and few loose
threads. Someone spent a lot of time weaving and finishing this
huipil.

Tactic
Woman's Huipil --- Wonderful designs of deer, foxes and dolls as
wells as other traditional motifs have been brocades into the weave of
this huipil from Tactic. The neck and arm holes have been finished
with green velvet that is in reasonably good shape. All six of the
salvages in this three-piece huipil have finished salvages. There is
one 1.5" long hole that was repaired near the bottom of on of the
salvages (I didn't notice it until I was writing this
description. The huipil is in fairly good condition with light
wear on the brocading and some loose threads. The sides of the huipil have
been opened for display. The colorful brocaded figures makes this
huipil a fun one to own.

Tactic
Woman's Huipil --- This Tactic huipil has a fun machine
embroidered neckline with flowers a happy bird with her nest on one
side and another characterized animal (donkey?) on the other side.
The edge of the neck and arm openings has been trimmed with dark blue
velvet. Its colorful fabric has the tree of life, zigzag of
lightning, diamond patterns and other motifs brocaded into the
weave. The huipil was made in three panels that have been stitched
together. The woven panel is about 17" long with 21 inches of
commercial cloth added to make the huipil easy to tuck into the
skirt. This excess cloth can be easily removed. Some pleats have
been made where the woven and commercial cloth are joined to make the
huipil more fitted so that the bottom portion of the huipil is only
29" wide.

Tactic
Woman's Huipil --- This colorful huipil was hand woven on a back-strap
loom in three pieces. The sides of the
huipil have been opened for display. However the pleats that the wearer
made to make the huipil slightly smaller remain (so the fabric is actually
wider than the 38" I measured). The neck has been decorated
with machine embroidered flowers that includes a fun bird. The brocade
designs include ducks, corn, tree of life and others. The woman who wore it has added pieces
of commercial cloth at the bottom so that the huipil can be easily
tucked into the skirt. They can easily be removed if desired. The huipil has finished salvages.
It is is in fairly good condition with light wear on the brocading and
some loose threads.

Fitting
Tips --- Huipils were traditionally made on a loom. Thus they are made of rectangular pieces
and are not intended to be a fitted garment. The width of the garment should be
considerably larger (at least 25 to 33%) than the shoulders of the wearer so
that the huipil can cover the upper arm.
Think about room to grow too! Mayan women often put tucks in a huipil's shoulder
then remove them as a child grows.
Neck and head hole openings
on Huipils are often small. Note that we can not
guarantee that the neck size of a Huipil fits you and your child.
If you want to wear some huipils you may have to open the neck opening and
lightly stitch it. This is especially true of
Huipils that have been woven on a back-strap
loom. Please check your neck and head measurements
carefully!!!
