Child Huipiles - Not Quite Perfect (12/18/2008)
Unless its new, no child's huipile is ever in perfect
condition. These huipiles are definitely used and not perfect. I started
picking some of these up in 1999 and kept putting them in various bins and
wasn't quite sure what to do with them since it takes quite a bit of time and
effort to get pictures & adequate descriptions on the web. By telling you these
aren't quite perfect, limiting dimensions to basic width x length, providing
price and pictures I can make these fun examples of "not quite perfect" huipiles available for you
at a reasonable price.
These huipiles are in poor to fair condition with
some combination of loose threads, wear, spots, graying or small holes. The neck holes
are likely to be small, so you may have to put in a slit to get over your
child's head. Usually the sides are stitched closed, but a few are open on
side so they can be used as a poncho or hanging (or you can easily tack them
closed).
Sizing: Remember you want the width of huipil to be at least 30% to 50%
(1.3 to 1.5 times) wider than your child's shoulder width.
