Totonicapan Guatemala  
(Quiche) Mayan Huipils  and Textiles

Most Totonicapan Huipils are made on a treadle or foot loom. There are quite a number of styles and I am sometimes uncertain as to whether I am totally correct in assigning all these to Totonicapan.  There may made by Totonicapan weavers for other villages or aldeas or they may actually be made in other villages that have similar styles. H_TO_001? Infant/ Small Child's Huipil   Width:  16" Length:  15" Neck: 5.25"w, 2.5"d Price: $20.00 Misplaced 1/8/12 ???		Totonicapan, Guatemala trade huipil for infant/toddler.   Treadle-loomed in one panel measuring 16” wide and 15” long.  Cotton foundation with brocaded designs in synthetic, lower edge nicely hemmed. Excellent condition

H_TO_005 Girl's huipil  Width: 21" Length:15.5" Neck :5"w. 2.5"d Price: $25.00 sold		Totonicapan, Guatemala trade huipil for girl. Treadle-loomed. Good used huipil with a few loose threads.

H_TO_010 Girl's huipil  Width: 18.5 to 22" Length: 21" Neck : 5" width. 3.25 depth with 1" zippered slit. Weight: 12.5 oz. Price:   $35.00		Totonicapan -- This is a treadle (foot) loomed double paneled huipil. Base cloth is cotton. Decorated with fun flowers that are machine embroidered (somewhat it the Xela design). Pleats give the huipil some shaping and variation in width. Good used girls huipil with some even graying of white base material.

H_TO_003* huipil  Width: 27" Length:16" Neck :6" width. 2" depth Weight: 14 oz. Price: $65.00		Totonicapan, Probably a new-style 2-panel huipil from Totonicapan.  This beautiful huipil (click on the picture - the thumbnail doesn't do it justice)  is back-strap loomed measuring 27" wide by 16" long.  Dark blue cotton foundation brocaded geometric designs using polished cotton and artificial silk embroidery floss.  All four edges of each panel nicely selvage-finished. Side seams are open so can use as poncho or easily stitched closed.  Good lightly used condition.

Nice brocaded design of tree of life, corn and ducks or swan plus geometric designs. Probably from  Totonicapan.   Velvet trim around neck and shoulders.  Base is cotton. Side seams are open so can use as poncho or easily stitched closed. In very good condition. .

Probably from Totonicapan.   Nice appliqué around neck and shoulders. Some loose threads and "nubbing" of textured pile - but very nice effect in general.  Base cotton has some light even fading. Side seams are open so can use as poncho or easily stitched closed. In good condition. Fits over my head.  Would be fun to wear.

Probably from Totonicapan.   A few loose threads and very light fading of black base. In good to very good condition.     Fits over my head.  Would be fun to wear.

Price: $25.00 sold		Totonicapan, Probably a new-style 2-panel huipil from Totonicapan.  The material is probably made on a treadle loom.  Green cotton foundation brocaded geometric designs. Fringed panel ends. Side seams are open so can use as poncho or easily stitched closed.  Generally good used condition showing light fading and wear.
H_TO_021* huipil  Width: 31" Length:28" Neck :6" width. 2.5" depth Weight: 1.25 Price: $25.00 sold		Totonicapan,- Single panel huipil made on treadle (foot) loom. Brocaded design of tree of life, corn and peacock plus geometric designs has wear and loose threads.  Probably from  Totonicapan.   Velvet trim around neck and shoulders is quite.  Base is cotton and shows some spots and stains. Pleats have been opened and red thread has left some dye. Side seams are open so can use as poncho or easily stitched closed. In very good condition.  In fair condition and priced accordingly.  Still a fun colorful huipil.

Price: $50.00 sold		Totonicapan, Probably a new-style 2-panel huipil from Totonicapan area.  This beautiful huipil that is very wearable (it fits over my 22" head).  Side seams are open so can use as poncho or easily stitched closed.  Good lightly used condition. Some uneven fading in base material where darts were taken in huipil.
