In good used condition.

Great to wear or as a wall hanging. Excellent condition. Note that the right panel of the huipil has lighter tinted thread than the 3 other panels.  Made by Maria featured as a child in the book Children of the World Guatemala, she is now a mother in her 20's with her own son.

H_SA_019 Woman's Huipil   Width: 29" Length: 29" Neck : 5" wide,  2.5" deep Price:   $130.00 sold		Nicely embroidered womans or large girls huipil.  Incredible work went into the embroidery of the birds and flowers in this huipil.  It is in very good used condition with some uneven color wear and a small spot or two.  Unlikely that anyone will notice because they will be looking at the embroidery.  Two panel back-strapped loomed cloth one side with finished selvages the other hemmed. Panels are open.

Two backstrap loomed panels with machine embroidered neck and shoulder flower designs. One side selvage finished the other unfinished.  Very good used condition.

Equal if not more work are the small Mayan figures in each of the woven areas squares.  Really fine work. Hand-woven two panels. One side selvage finished other hemmed.  This is a used huipil, but the person who wore it was proud of it and took good care of it.  Very good used condition.  Just fits over my 22" circumference head.

Used but well loved and cared for huipil. The fine embroidery shows many of the birds of the area surrounded by flowers.  Equal work is found in the hand brocaded traditional bird figures found in the base cloth. Two panel back-strapped loomed cloth one side with finished selvages the other hemmed.  Open sides so can be worn as a poncho or can easily be stitched closed.  It fits over my 22" circumference head - very comfortably! In very good used condition.

Primary material is cotton with some synthetic metallic threads to give the shine that is favored in Santiago Atitlan these days.

	Santiago Atitlan - Green foot-loomed jaspe (ikat) corte material.  In good used condition.   Primary material is cotton. This is a color that is increasing being favored by young Santiago Atitlan women who wear the skirt with a light purple huipil from Santiago Atitlan.

Primary material is cotton with some synthetic metallic threads to give the shine that is favored in Santiago Atitlan these days.  Dimensions of the skirt's fabric is 42" by 132".

	Fitting Tips ---  Huipils were traditionally made on a loom. Thus they are made of rectangular pieces and are not intended to be a fitted garment.  The width of the garment should be considerably larger (at least 25 to 33%) than the shoulders of the wearer.  Think about room to grow too! Mayan women often put tucks in a huipil's shoulder then remove them as a child grows.  Neck and head hole openings on Huipils are often small.  Note that we can not guarantee that the neck size of a Huipil fits you and your child.  If you want to wear some huipils you may have to open the neck opening and lightly stitch it. This is especially true of Huipils that have been woven on a back-strap loom.    Please check your neck and head measurements carefully!!!                            last  updated June 3, 2005
