Back strap loomed, 2 panels, measuring 17” wide and 13 -15” long.   One hem selvage finished, the other hemmed. Nicely finished neck.  Pleats have been opened up.  Very good used condition (better than most infant huipiles)

Traditional older style of red and white striped back ground with tiny brocaded decorations of ducks, stars, dogs and other designs.  The huipil has 2 panels of back strap loomed cotton measuring 21" wide and 13.5 inches long.Hand-crocheted reinforcement around the neck.  A very finely woven huipil,  in nice condition.

Ends of two panels are not finished except for machine stitching to avoid unraveling other two have loose selvage ends.  A good used huipil with a few light spots.

H_SLT_006 Huipil  Width: 31": Length:26" Neck :6"w, 2.5"d Price: $40.00		San Lucas Toliman,  New two paneled huipil fabric.  Handmade on back strap loom you can either open up the panels where they have been hand seamed together and use the slit as a neck hole to make a very comfortable "poncho" blouse.  Alternatively used the material as a wonderful tablecloth or pillow cover.  This is the newer more open weave style and would be quite comfortable to wear on a warmer day.  The colors are really striking.  In excellent condition with fringed edges to the panels.

Traditional red and white stripes with figures of queztal, dogs, corn and other figures.  A woman who doesn't have the time to weave and and can afford to do so, would buy this textile and sew appliqué or embroider the neck and arm holes.  You can make a simple slit to open and wear - or use as a wonderful table cover.

	Fitting Tips ---  Huipils were traditionally made on a loom. Thus they are made of rectangular pieces and are not intended to be a fitted garment.  The width of the garment should be considerably larger (at least 25 to 33%) than the shoulders of the wearer so that the huipils covers part of the upper arm.  Think about room to grow too! Mayan women often put tucks in a huipil's shoulder then remove them as a child grows.  Neck and head hole openings on Huipils are often small.  Note that we can not guarantee that the neck size of a Huipil fits you and your child.  If you want to wear some huipils you may have to open the neck opening and lightly stitch it. This is especially true of Huipils that have been woven on a back-strap loom.    Please check your neck and head measurements carefully!!!  The arm holes can also be small, but can usually be easily opened.
