San Juan Sacatepequez  Infant or Small Girl's Huipil ---  This backstrap hand-woven huipil has the stripes typical of San Juan Sacatepequez with a  feathered serpent brocaded pattern. The condition is  good with some loose threads and light fading more evident on one side than another.  Nicely finished neck and shoulder designs.    The ends of the panels have two woven selvages and two that have been hemmed.

The condition is  generally good.  The colors are a bit more mellow because of  even sun fading. There is some wear along the edge where the two panels have been sewn together.  The square neck is edged with a very worn black velvet ribbon.  The ends of the panels have two very tight nice selvages and two that have been hemmed. Sides seams are open so can be used as a poncho or easily seamed together.

C_SJS_003 Dimensions: 31"x 73" Form: two-panel tube Weight: Price: $45.00 missplaced		San Maria de Jesus skirt for Girl or Small Woman -- Typical foot-loomed black and white skirt material from San Juan Sacatepequez. The  It is a 2-panel skirt with one panel of  21" and the other 10".  The colorful flowered  randas appear to be primarily decorative since the fabric is sewn together elsewhere. The randas are embroidered using a machine. The woman I bought the skirt from indicated that it was from Santa Maria de Jesus, a neighboring pueblo to San Juan Sacatepequez. The skirt is used, in very good condition.

They are newly woven on a back-strap loom.  They are the size of small napkin or work as a nice table runner for an 18"  doll's table (American Girl Josefina's table is shown here).

	Fitting Tips ---  Huipils were traditionally made on a loom. Thus they are made of rectangular pieces and are not intended to be a fitted garment.  The width of the garment should be considerably larger (at least 25 to 33%) than the shoulders of the wearer.  Think about room to grow too! Mayan women often put tucks in a huipil's shoulder then remove them as a child grows.  Neck and head hole openings on Huipils are often small.  Note that we can not guarantee that the neck size of a Huipil fits you and your child.  If you want to wear some huipils you may have to open the neck opening and lightly stitch it. This is especially true of Huipils that have been woven on a back-strap loom.    Please check your neck and head measurements carefully!!!
