Patzun's Huipils are a favorite of many Mayan women.  Their back-strap woven fabric is soft and the hand-embroidered flowered and feathered designs around the neck are often incredibly beautiful. Unusual pink  foundation weave. Nice hand embroidered flowers in  good condition with nice flowers medallions on shoulder.  Head hole reinforced with light surface wear. Neck has been opened with an unfinished side slit. All panels with selvage ends tight on one side, some looseness on other. Bought from Christolina  (2011-25) and based on style, likely originally made by her or her family. Generally good condition, with light wear and light fading.

Hand embroidered flowers and nicely done simple randa holding two panels together..  One panel selvage finished, others reinforced with small hem.  Head hole neatly hemmed, but can easily be opened because is a 2-panel huipil.  Panel sides are open, but can be easily stitched closed.  I think this is basically a new huipil for an infant or child, in excellent condition.   Embroidered by Maria Elena Apec.

The embroidery is nicely done and in good condition This is a back-strap loomed double-paneled huipil with embroidered pitcher randa on the flowered portion of the huipil.. The neck is very nicely finished and has been opened 1" down the randa on one side(making it easy to open further to fit over your head if needed), Dark red foundation shows light wear with end selvages finished s with original threads hanging from bottom on both sides.  Bought from Elena (2010). In good used condition. A significant issue is an apparent mistake by the initial weaver in calculating the length of the panels.  One panel has been neatly cut & finished and then neatly tacked on the end of the other panel.  Be sure to look at the pictures.  Price reflects this issue.

Price:  $ 50.00		Patzun,  I love the embroidery of beautiful flowers around the neck and over the arm holes.  But there is a significant flaw of a loose area along the selvage of one of the panels (see picture on the right below).  I think with some careful stitching it could be closed (other side of huipil is in very good condition.   Not many loose threads on the embroidery except for the black finished areas directly around neck.  Other than the noted flaw the huipil would be considered in good used condition.

The finished neck (with flower designs) just fits over my head, probably because a bit opened where panels come together.  Embroidery beautiful but does have some light wear on embroidery and loose threads. There are two small tucks on each side to make the huipil a bit narrower (would be wider than 33 if opened up). Also a bit of wear in base material under arms. Price:  $ 50.00 sold		Patzun,   This hupil has a bit different feel and design than the other huipils I have.  For one the neck is triangular rather than the normal circle.  The flowers closes to the neck are three dimensional  and the colors match the finely embroidered decorative randa.  The stripes of the foundation have more white in them and appear to have borders of green and black rather than the usual green and blue.

Last updated: 01/09/2012	Fitting Tips ---  Huipils were traditionally made on a loom. Thus they are made of rectangular pieces and are not intended to be a fitted garment.  The width of the garment should be considerably larger (at least 25 to 33%) than the shoulders of the wearer.  Think about room to grow too! Mayan women often put tucks in a huipil's shoulder then remove them as a child grows.  Neck and head hole openings on Huipils are often small.  Note that we can not guarantee that the neck size of a Huipil fits you and your child.  If you want to wear some huipils you may have to open the neck opening and lightly stitch it. This is especially true of Huipils that have been woven on a back-strap loom.    Please check your neck and head measurements carefully!!!
