Patzun's Huipils are a favorite of many Mayan women.  Their back-strap woven fabric is soft and the hand-embroidered flowered and feathered designs around the neck are often incredibly beautiful. Hand embroidered flowers and nicely done simple randa holding two panels together..  One panel selvage finished, others reinforced with small hem.  Head hole neatly hemmed, but can easily be opened because is a 2-panel huipil.  Panel sides are open, but can be easily stitched closed.  I think this is basically a new huipil for an infant or child, in excellent condition.   Embroidered by Maria Elena Apec.

Generally good condition, with light wear and a couple minor spots.

Used huipil in good condition.

Back-strap loomed, 2 panels.  Feathered embroidery design around neck is nice but has loose threads and wear especially on one side.  Some wear and light spotting on back-strapped woven panels. Panels have uneven length. Sides somewhat open - can easily be stitched together or opened to wear as a poncho.  Overall a child's huipil, in generally good condition, but with wear. .

Beautiful and finely done hand-embroidered flowers on this large girl or small woman's huipil. This is a back-strap loomed double-paneled huipil., measuring 24” wide by 15” long.  Nicely woven cotton panels with tight end selvages on one side and selvages with colorful threads on other.  The embroidery is in very good condition and the hupil has a nicely done randa between the panels.  The neck is finished has a 1" (unfinished) slit.   Very good used condition.   Click on pictures for a close up.

In good used condition. A significant issue is an apparent mistake by the initial weaver in calculating the length of the panels.  One panel has been neatly cut & finished and then neatly tacked on the end of the other panel.  Be sure to look at the pictures.  Price reflects this issue.

Price:  $ 50.00		Patzun,  I love the embroidery of beautiful flowers around the neck and over the arm holes.  But there is a significant flaw of a loose area along the selvage of one of the panels (see picture on the right below).  I think with some careful stitching it could be closed (other side of huipil is in very good condition.   Not many loose threads on the embroidery except for the black finished areas directly around neck.  Other than the noted flaw the huipil would be considered in good to very good used condition.

Price:  $ 50.00		Patzun,   This hupil has a bit different feel and design than the other huipils I have.  For one the neck is triangular rather than the normal circle.  The flowers closes to the neck are three demensional  and the colors match the finely embroidered decorative randa.  The stripes of the foundation have more white in them and appear to have borders of green and black rather than the usual green and blue.  Description being written. Last updated: 06/11/2009	Fitting Tips ---  Huipils were traditionally made on a loom. Thus they are made of rectangular pieces and are not intended to be a fitted garment.  The width of the garment should be considerably larger (at least 25 to 33%) than the shoulders of the wearer.  Think about room to grow too! Mayan women often put tucks in a huipil's shoulder then remove them as a child grows.  Neck and head hole openings on Huipils are often small.  Note that we can not guarantee that the neck size of a Huipil fits you and your child.  If you want to wear some huipils you may have to open the neck opening and lightly stitch it. This is especially true of Huipils that have been woven on a back-strap loom.    Please check your neck and head measurements carefully!!!
